MonieAssist ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the MonieAssist mobile application and related services.

By using MonieAssist, you consent to the data practices described in this policy.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide Directly

  • Account registration details: name, email address, and password (stored as a secure hash)
  • Financial data you manually enter: wallet names, transaction descriptions, budget amounts, loan details, savings goals
  • Files you upload: PDF or CSV bank statements

Information Collected Automatically

  • Device identifiers (device type, OS version)
  • App usage data: screens viewed, features used, session duration
  • Crash reports and error logs

Email Data (Smart Import Feature)

If you use the Smart Import feature, you authorize MonieAssist to:

  • Read specific bank alert emails you forward or grant access to
  • Extract only transaction data (amount, date, merchant, account balance) from these emails
  • Store original email content is not stored permanently after extraction is complete
  • Not read emails unrelated to bank transactions

How We Use Your Information

  • To provide, operate, and improve the MonieAssist service
  • To process and categorize your financial transactions
  • To generate budgets, reports, and financial insights
  • To send service-related notifications (e.g., budget alerts)
  • To respond to your support requests
  • To detect and prevent fraud or unauthorized access
  • To comply with legal obligations under Ghanaian law

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on servers provided by Supabase and Vercel, which maintain SOC 2 compliance and industry-standard encryption (AES-256 at rest, TLS 1.2+ in transit).

Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and never stored in plaintext. Financial data is logically isolated per user account.

Despite our efforts, no transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password and enable device-level security.

Data Sharing and Disclosure

We share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • Service Providers: Third-party vendors who help us operate MonieAssist (e.g., Supabase for database, Vercel for hosting, email service providers). These vendors are contractually bound to protect your data.
  • Legal Requirements: If required by Ghanaian law, court order, or governmental authority.
  • Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice provided to users.
  • With Your Consent: Any other sharing requires your explicit consent.

Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Export your financial data in CSV format
  • Opt out of non-essential communications

Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

Children's Privacy

MonieAssist is not intended for individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the app or by email. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance.
